I thought that I had the best job in the world! I get to be a wife, a Mom, a writer, a tutor, a volunteer, a party planner, an administrator, and a chef. Yes, I truly believed I was the luckiest person in the world until I heard a news report on NPR while driving in my car and listening to the radio. It seems that there was a competition to become the caretaker on an island off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The job entails taking photos, walking, swimming, fishing, exploring, scuba diving, snorkeling, and writing one blog per week for a year. The winner of this most coveted position, there were 34,000 applications, earns 150,000 Australian dollars for the year. S/he gets to live in a house with three bedrooms and may invite another person to stay with her/him.
Check out more details of the competition and the winner. Do not despair! The campaign from Queensland, Australia’s tourism office generated so much publicity and interest that next year the contest will be held again.
Let’s hear from you! What do you think is the best job in the world?
