I find it especially touching when couples renew their vows! Pam and Paul celebrated their vow renewal with their close family and friends in New York City and the event actually has the look and feel of a full wedding, from the beautiful church to the bride’s gown. I particularly love this shoot because of the downtown feel. I love the city of New York and its old-world architecture. It is obvious from the photos that Pam and Paul are totally in love and it’s easy to see from the photos below that these two have many, many more great years ahead of them!

Most memorable aspect of this shoot: Since I often work with kids at Mary Jane Photography, it is such a treat to have children on the shoot. They make everything hilarious. This was a family shoot as opposed to a wedding shoot. Having the baby there made everything whole for the Bride.
Style: My philosophy in photography is the same as it is in life. If it is too forced, it won’t look good. And, I think it’s important to find something fun in everything we do. Even though a client might feel uncomfortable at first when you ask them to leap in the air with their wedding dress on– it’s worth the risk. Sometimes I have to do a little diplomatic persuasion to get a bride and groom to do something that I know in the end will be absolutely fantastic and different. They always end up loving the pictures.
Inspiration: We chose this spot and the location because they live right there. This wedding is actually a renewal of vows. So, knowing that I was only going to photograph the couple and their kids, I wanted to do the shots near their home and keep it really fun and relaxed. That’s why we did a lot of fun running pictures and nothing to over-posed. I also wanted to keep the images really funky and modern with city backgrounds. I love the cobble stone streets in Tribeca and the old factories. There aren’t many left, so I am using them as backgrounds now before they are all gone to new construction. I just love the juxtaposition of a wedding gown next to a gritty work space. It really makes the gown pop.
