The recall by Graco Children’s Products Inc. announced this Wednesday includes various model numbers of its: Graco’s PassageTM, AlanoTM and SpreeTM Strollers and Travel Systems.

The recall involves uncovered hinges where reports were received of children placing their fingers in the stroller’s canopy hinge as the canopy was being opened or closed, causing lacerations. Yikes!

The strollers were manufactured in China and distributed between October 2004 and December 2009 through various retailers including Wal-Mart, Burling Coat Factory, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Target, Sears, Fred Meyer and other stores nationwide. This recall affects about 1.5 million strollers.

If you have one of the problem strollers, CPSC recommends you stop using it immediately and contact Graco to receive a free protective cover repair kit. You can find those order forms here. or by calling 800-345-4109 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

Only strollers or travel systems with a plastic, jointed hinge mechanism that has indented canopy positioning notches (see photo below) are included in this recall.

  1. While I understand that companies are responsible for making safe products, parents also have a responsibility to be watchful of what small children are doing and touching. I’m glad Graco is offering a repair kit – they definitely take care of their issues when they arise!
