One of my favorite movies is Monsoon Wedding. If you haven’t seen it, rent it. It’s definitely a family film and allows the audience to share in customs and traditions that are so complex and interesting.
We just received a wedding invitation for an Indian wedding! The ceremonies begin at 2:30 in the afternoon and continue with cocktails at 6:30 and dinner and dancing at 7:30. A menu selection of vegetarian or non-vegetarian is listed on the response card. I am definitely choosing the vegetarian menu in order to sample the various Indian dishes with their amazing spices and flavors!
Next month, we look forward to going to a traditional Indian wedding where we will not only observe, but, participate as guests. Some of the women in the office are talking about wearing saris, the traditional women’s dress.
Whether we have arrived here in the U. S. this generation or many generations in the past, diversity amongst people has made the United States of America the culturally rich and exciting country where we are privileged to live our lives and share in each other’s celebrations!
